Question 93053: I have the following word problem and I don't know where to biggin answering it.
For 1980 through 1998, the population (in thousands) of Hawaii can be modeled by 13.2t+ 965 where t is the number of years since 1980. What was the population of Hawaii in 1998? What was the population increase from 1980 to 1998? I believe i am to make an equation such as: 13.2(14)+965 btu i don't know where to go from there.

For 1980 through 1998, the population (in thousands) of Hawaii can be modeled by 13.2t+ 965 where t is the number of years since 1980. What was the population of Hawaii in 1998? What was the population increase from 1980 to 1998?
----------------
P(t) = 13.2t + 965
1998 is 8 years after 1980 so let t=8.
P(8) = 13.2*8 + 965
P(8) = 1070.6
-------------
1980 is 0 years after 1080 so let t=0.
P(0) = 965
--------------
Increase from 1980 to 1998 = 1070.6-965 = 105.6 thousand
