8t + 16 > 16t - (12t - 20)

Put a 1 just before the parentheses,

8t + 16 > 16t - 1(12t - 20)

and then distribute the -1 into
the parentheses to remove them:

8t + 16 > 16t - 12t + 20
8t + 16 > 4t + 20
     4t > 4
      t > 1
