Question 7807: 5sqrt(I am a Junior in high school this year going into Pre-Calc/Trig and i would appreciate it if you could help me on this summer assignment question because i've forgotten how to do it.
5xSquare root of X minus the Square root of X-1=6
Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
When you write problems such as this one, you need write them in a way as to leave no question about what the problem is asking. Using parentheses is one way to do this.
You wrote:
5sqrt(x) - sqrt(x) - 1 = 6 or is it 5sqrt(x) - sqrt(x-1) = 6 ?
I'll assume that it is the first one:
Subtract the sqrt terms.
Now add 1 to both sides.
Divide both sides by 4.
Finally, square both sides.
