Question 755098: How to work this problem
-5(1-2z)+4(3-z)=7(3+2)
I have work this problem for a while and I still can't get it please help

Answer by pragya.ban@gmail.com(32)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-5(1-2z)+4(3-z)=7(3+2)
The basic idea of this equation is to distribute everything first.
(Remember the Order of Operations: [P]arenthesis [E]xponents [M]ultiplication [D]ivision [A]ddition [S]ubtraction)

1. If you distribute, it should look like this:

-5+10z+12-4z= 7(5)

*The negative sign from -2z changes to a positive sign because when two negative numbers multiply (-5 and -2z in this case), they result in a positive answer (+10z). However, when there is one negative number (-z) and one positive number (+4) multiplied, it equals to a negative answer (-4z).*

2. The next step is to group like terms together and operate in between them:

(-5+12)+(10z-4z)=35

7+6z=35

3. Now solve like normal. Subtract 7 from both sides and then divide by 6.
6z=35-7

z=28/6

z=4.66

To check your answer replace z with 4.66 and see if it equals to 35.
