Because you said this was an absolute value problem, I am going to assume that {} means ||. First isolate the absolute value, by adding 3 to both sides.
Because of >, this is now separated into two inequalities with an or between them. When we change the sign, we flip the inequality.
x+2>5 or x+2<-5
x+2-2>5-2 or x+2-2<-5-2
x>3 or x<-7
The interval notation for the solution set is: (-infinity,-7)U(3,infinity)
