Question 697150: Solve the following inequality: |2x-1|>5
my work:
2x+1>5 2x-1>5
subtract 1 Add 1
2x=4 2x=6
x=2 x=3
Check:
|2(2)-1|>5 |2(3)-1|>5
3>5 no 5>5 no
I'm confused, since 3 and 5 are not greater then five does this mean I have no solution. Therefor my answers of 2 and 3 are wrong or does this mean my answers can't equal 2 or 3.

Solve the following inequality: |2x-1|>5
-------------
my work:
2x+1>5 2x-1>5
subtract 1 Add 1
2x=4 2x=6 ************** Don't change to equals, won't work
x=2 x=3
2x-1 > 5
2x > 6
x > 3
-------------
-(2x-1) > 5
-2x+1 > 5
-2x > 4
x < -2
