Seven years ago, Meuy's age was three times her sister Mouang's age. At present Meuy is eight years older than her sister. Find Meuy's present age.
Let Meuy’s current age be M, and her sister, Mouang's current age, S
Then: M – 7 = 3(S - 7) ----- M – 7 = 3S – 21 ----- M – 3S = - 14 ----- eq (i)
Also, M = S + 8 ----- S = M – 8 ----- eq (ii)
M – 3(M – 8) = - 14 ------- Substituting M – 8 for S in eq (i)
M – 3M + 24 = - 14
– 2M = - 38
M, or Meuy’s current age = , or
