Find the sum or difference. -1/6 - 9/22.
In order to add or subtract fractions, you have to have a common denominator. (That means the bottom number has to be the same.) It's easiest to find the lowest common denominator because you don't have to reduce as much. To find that we find all the factors of the denominators. The LCD will have the highest amount of each factor.
6=2*3
22=2*11
The LCD=2*3*11=66
Whatever you do to the denominator to get that, you also have to do to the numerator (the top number).

Both fractions have the same sign, so add the numerators and keep the sign, the denominator stays the same:

The numator and denominator are both even, so they are both divisible by 2, reduce the top and bottom by a factor of 2.
