You subtracted 1 from the middle, so you need to do that to the left and right sides.
On the left, you'll get -53 - 1 = -54 (not -52)
On the right, you'll get -26 - 1 = -27
So you should have -54 < 9v < -27
From here, divide all sides by 9 to get
-54/9 < 9v/9 < -27/9
-6 < v < -3
which is the answer.
