Question 583431: Find the equation of the line through (3,-1)and parallel to -2x+5y=-2
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-2 x + 5 y = -2
Find the slope of this line
make y the subject
5 y = 2 x -2
Divide by 5
y = 2/5 x - 2/5
Compare this equation with y=mx+b
slope m = 2/5
The slope of a line parallel to the above line will be the same
The slope of the required line will be 2/5
m= 2/5 ,point ( 3 , -1 )
Find b by plugging the values of m & the point in
y=mx+b
-1 = 6/ 5 + b
b= -11/5
m= 2/5
Plug value of the slope and b in y = mx +b
The required equation is y = 2/5x -11/ 5
