Question 54305: My question is if the length of one of the equal legs of an isosceles triangle is 8 cm less than 4 times the length of the base and the perimeter is 29 cm, then what is the length of one of the equal legs?
Answer by jainenderkapoor(61) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the length of Base be = x cm
Then each equal side is of length = 4x - 8 ( 4 times base - 8 cm)
So we have the three sides of the triangle as
x cm, (4x - 8)cm and(4x - 8)cm
We are given that perimeter is = 29 cm
so we have
x + (4x - 8) + (4x - 8) = 29
x + 4x + 4x - 8 - 8 = 29
9x - 16 = 29
9x = 29 + 16
9x = 45
x = 45/9 = 5
So the three sides of the triangle are
5 cm, 12 cm, 12 cm
I hope that the solution is clear to you.
