Question 537291: The cell phone company also has two texting plans. The first is unlimited texts for $12. The second plan is 8 cents per text.
how do I set up an inequality to show when it less expensive to go with the second texting plan.

Answer by fcabanski(1391)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You want to keep the second plan beneath $12. The second plan says that each text costs $.08. So if there were x texts, that would be x*.08=.08x.

Having that beneath $12 means it must be less than 12.

.08x<12

Divide both sides by .08.

x<150.

If you send 149 or fewer texts then the second plan is better.

That's math. In the real world the second plan also involves worrying over how many texts you send. There is some value to not having to worry about it and count texts.
