Question 43825: solve the inequality -18 / (6x-42) >0
so neg 18 over the equation 6x-42 is greater than zero.
then it asks me to pick from four choices.
a, is (-3) and (infinity)
b. is (7) and (infinity)
c. is ((-infinity,) and (-3)
d. is (neg infinity) and pos (7)
i know that 7 doesn't work because (zero) is not suposed to be a denominator.
which leaves choices a, c. and where we are trying to get above zero
negative infinity to me is the logical choice so that the fraction is neg over neg (a positive) and therefore regardless of how small it is still bigger than zero. so with out doing any math, i get that c. is the correct answer. (i think).
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solve the inequality -18 / (6x-42) >0
Since the numerator is negative, the fraction can only
be positive when the denominator is negative.
Solve 6x-42<0
6x<42
x<7
The inequality is true when x<7.
