Question 419664: dear tutor i tried several times to solve this problem, but it was too hard for me. Tutor can you please solve this problem for me : A car left a garage on the highway at 100 km/h. Fifteen minutes later, a police cruiser left the same garage at 120 km/h in pursuit of the car. How long did it take the cruiser to catch up with the car? ( remember time must be in hours ) thank - you so much , greatly appreciated.
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Car speed 100 mph
Police car speed 120 mph
Difference in time= 15 minutes = 1/4 hour
Car will have covered 25 miles befor police car starts
catch up distance= 25 miles
catch up speed = 120 -100 mph
catch up speed = 20 mph
Catchup time = catchup distance/catch up speed
catch up time= 25 / 20
catch up time= 1.25 hours
