.
2x+18=16-1*(x+7)
.
distribute the -1 to remove parenthesis
2x+18=16-1*x -7
.
Add x to both sides of the equation
3x + 18 = 16- 7
.
subtract 18 from both sides of the equation (isolating the 3x)
3x = 16 - 7 - 18
3x = -9
x = -3
.
check your answer
-6 + 18 = 16 + 3 -7 = 12
