Question 307180: solve the compound inequality.
7 > -4x + 6 or 8 ≤ -4x + 3

Add 4x-7 to both sides of the first inequality
Add 4x-8 to both sides of the second inequality:

Divide both sides of both inequalities by 4

Graph the first inequality. We use an open circle, o, for

 ----------------------------o=======================>
-3         -2  -1.25 -1  -0.25  0         1         2

Graph the second inequality. We use a closed circle, @, for

<===================@---------------------------------
 -3         -2  -1.25 -1  -0.25  0         1         2

Since the word between the inequalities is "OR", we take their
UNION:

<===================@---------o=======================>
 -3         -2  -1.25 -1  -0.25  0         1         2

The abbreviation for this graph is called "interval notation":

  (,-1.25] U (-0.25, )

Note that the bracket ] stands for a closed circle @ and a (\
stands for an open circle o.
