Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-17
x>10
The roots are x=-17,10,and -4
What you have to find is when y>0
There are three sections to consider.
a)from x=-17 to x=-4
b)from x=-4 to 10
c)and x>10
As it turns out b) 10>x>-4 is <0 and a and c are >0
How do you find out? Plug a value in for x in those three intervals and find y.
(x+17)(x-10)(x+4)>0
b)Try x=5 since I said it doesn't work
22*-5*9 you can see that is negative
a) Try -5
17-5*-5-10*4-5
12*-15*-1 >0
c)Try 20
37*10*24>0 yes
