Question 266464: A machinist must make a bushing that has a tolerance of 0.005 in. The diameter of the bushing is 4.32 in. Find the lower and upper limits of the diameter of the bushing

I believe the correct measure is +/- the stated tolerance.
if the bushing is supposed to be 4.32 inches, and the tolerance is +/- .005 inch, then the limits of the actual measurement would have to be:
lower limit = 4.32 inches minus .005 inches = 4.315 inches.
upper limit = 4.32 inches plus .005 inches = 4.325 inches.
if the diameter is between these stated limits, then the diameter is accepted as good.
