-Find all sets of three consecutive positive even integers whose sum is less than 40.
Answer by Earlsdon(6294) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You can start with x as the first positive even integer, the next positive even integer would be x+2 and the next one would be x+4. Now you could set up the inequality:
Solve for x.
Subtract 6 from both sides.
Divide both sides by 3.
But you want even integers, so use x = 10
10+12+14 = 36 < 40
8+10+12 = 30 < 40
6+8+10 =24 < 40
4+6+8 = 18 < 40
2+4+6 = 12 < 40
0+2+4 = 6 < 40
