This is like the last one we did, but you have a -2 on the left side. To simplify this, just add +2 to each side, and you will get .

For this there will be two solutions:

First solution:
y-5 = 12
y-5+5 = 12+5
y= 17

Second solution:
y-5 = -12
y -5+5 = -12 +5
y = -7

Check by substiting back into the original equation. They both work!

Therefore y-5=12 or y-5=-12
And y=17 or y=-7
