Question 244677: 1/3y = -x -4/3
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/3y = -x -4/3
There is something missing in the question. We are not asked to solve for anything. We can't solve for both x and y because there is only one equation.
We can only find x in terms of y and y in terms of x
So we are missing another equation or the question.
solve for y in terms of x
1/3y = -x -4/3
multiply by 3
y=-3x -4
x in terms of y
1/3y = -x -4/3
1/3 y+4/3=-x
add x to both sides
x+1/3y =-+4/3
subtract 1/3 y from both sides
x=-1/3y-4/3
you could also solve for the intercepts
when x=0 and y=0
1/3y = -x -4/3
if x=0 then 1/3y=-4/3
multiply by 3
1y=4
y=4
if y=0 then 0=-x-4/3
x=-4/3
