During the first 20 mi of a 50 mi bicycle race, Roger's average speed was 16 mi/h. What must his average speed be during the remainder of the race if he is to finish the race in less than 2.5h? This question is from textbook Algebra and Trigonometry Structure and Method book 2

During the first 20 mi of a 50 mi bicycle race, Roger's average speed was 16 mi/h. What must his average speed be during the remainder of the race if he is to finish the race in less than 2.5h?

20 miles at 16mph consumes 20/16 hours, = 1.25 hours.
That leaves 1.25 hours to go the remaining 30 miles.
30/1.25 = 24 mph
