Fluorine-18, with a half-life of 1.83 hours, is used in medical imaging. How long will it take for 5 grams of fluorine-18 to decay to 4 grams?
--------------
A(t) = A(0)(1/2)^(t/(half-life)
------------------
4 = 5(1/2)^(t.1.83)
(1/2)^(t/1.83) = (4/5)
Take the log of both sides to get:
(t/1.83)*log(1/2) = log(4/5)
t/1.83 = 0.3193
t = 0.58913 hours
