Question 176840: How do you know if a value is a solution for an inequality? How is this different from determining if a value is a solution to be an equation? If you replace the equal sign of an equation with an inequality sign, is there ever a time when the same value will be a solution to both the equation and the inequality? Write an inequality and provide a value that may or may not be a solution to the inequality.

1. Substitute the value into the inequality. If the result is a true statement, then the value is a solution. Otherwise not.

2. No difference. Use the same procedure and criteria.

3. A value can be a solution to both an equation and the inequality created if the equals sign in that equation is replaced by an inequality sign if and only if the inequality sign includes 'or equals' as in ≤ or ≥.

4. You can make up your own inequality.
