Put it all together.

Multiply both sides by to get rid of denominators.

Your number is 48.

you have one number lets call it x
1/3 of x = 1/2 of x minus 8
(1/3)x=(1/2)x-8
multiply both sides by 6
2x=3x-48
subtract 2x and add 48 on both sides
