: -2y+x=2y-8 write this as an x and y intercept. Can you explain how to work this out This question is from textbook Holt Algebra 1 Texas

Answer by Mathtut(3670)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-2y+x=2y-8 lets put this in y=mx+b format where b equals the y intercept. the y intercept is the value of y when x=0
4y=x+8 divide by 4 and you get y=x/4+2 substitute 0 for x's value and you get y=2 so the y intercept for this equation is 2 in ordered pair form looks like this (0,2)
now the x intercept is the value of x when y=0 so lets write the original equation as x=4y-8 substitute 0 as y's value and you get x=-8 so -8 is the x intercept written in order pair form as (-8,0)
