You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let's solve the first inequality -2x%3C-8:

-2x%3C-8 Start with the first inequality.

x%3E%28-8%29%2F%28-2%29 Divide both sides by -2 to isolate x. note: Remember, the inequality sign flips when we divide both sides by a negative number.

x%3E4 Reduce.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Now let's solve the second inequality x-5%3C5:

x-5%3C5 Start with the second inequality.

x%3C5%2B5 Add 5 to both sides.

x%3C10 Combine like terms on the right side.

So our answer is x%3E4 and x%3C10

Which combines to the compound inequality 4%3Cx%3C10

You did not say what exactly you want us to help you with.
Do you want to solve for x?
Do you want to graph the inequalities?
I'll assume you want to solve for x.
To do so, solve each inequality for x one at a time.
-2x < -8....I'll do this guy first.
Divide both sides by -2. Remember that when dividing or multiplying inequalities by a negative number, you must reverse the inequality sign.
x > -8/-2
x > 4
Do you see how < became >?
==========================
We now solve the other guy.
x - 5 < 5
We add 5 to both sides of the inequality.
x < 5 + 5
x < 10
We have two answers:
x > 4 and x < 10
What does this mean?
It means that whatever the value of x is, it lies between 4 and 10.
This is how we write it:
4 < x < 10
