I will need 30 tons of rock to cover the area. If each ton cost $60 and each tree is $84, what is the maximum number of trees I can buy with a budget for rock and trees of $2,500. How do I write this as an inequality that illustrates the problem.
:
Write an equation for the statement:
30 tons of rock + x trees =< 2500
:
(30*60) + 84x =< 2500
:
1800 + 84x =< 2500
:
84x =< 2500 - 1800
:
84x =< 700
x =<
x =< 8.333
You can't buy a fractional tree, therefore max trees = 8
:
:
Check solution:
(30*60) + (8*84) =
1800 + 672 = 2472 which is < 2500
