If it takes her 6 minutes to run each lap, then the total time to run x laps is 6x minutes. We are told that the number of minutes she ran is less than 42:

Nothing in the statement of the problem says the number of laps has to be an integer....

ANSWER: less than 7

Of course, a negative number of laps makes no sense, so the answer is not COMPLETELY correct mathematically. The better answer is probably .
