Question 119226: CAn you help me with these 2 problems?
-3x+6/2 < 12
and
11y+13 > -1
Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Assume you mean:
:
< 12
:
Get rid of the fraction, multiply both sides by 2 and you have
-3x + 6 < 24
:
-3x < 24 - 6
:
-3x < 18
:
We need of have x positive, multiply both sides by -1
This reverses the inequality sign
+3x > -18
:
x > -18/3
:
x > -6
:
Check solution. -5 is greater than -6, try x = -5 in the original equation
-3(-5) + 6 < 24
+15 + 6 = 21 which is < 24 so it is true
:
If you try x = -7, you will find it is not true
:
:
11y + 13 > -1
11y > -1 - 13
11y > -14
y >
