Switching the sign from > to < was good -- that's a mistake that is easy to make.
Don't change your answer to a decimal approximation. Leave it as an exact answer as a fraction.
When you divided by -3 you should have ended up with
x < -20/3
You show
x < 20/3
I don't know if you got the wrong answer (by dividing positive by negative and getting a positive answer), or if you just left out the "-" when showing the answer you got. Answer by ikleyn(52921) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
Both you and @josgarithmetic are wrong.
Below find the correct solution.
-3x - 6 > 14
Add 6 to both sides:
-3x > 14 + 6 = 20.
Divide both sides by (-3). You will get
x < = -.
Answer. x < -. The solution set is the interval (,).
