Question 1091877: To help sell more of a lower grade meat, a butcher mixes some premium ground beef worth $3.10/lb with 8lb of lower grade ground beef worth $2.05/lb. if the result was an intermediate grade of ground beef worth $2.68/lb how much premium ground beef was used?
Answer by addingup(3677)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3.10x+8(2.05) = 2.68(x+8)
3.10x+16.40 = 2.68x+21.44
0.42x = 5.04
x = 5.04/0.42 = 12
You have to mix 12 pounds of the premium with 8lbs of the lower grade to get 12+8 = 20lbs at 2.68.
