Find the greatest possible pair of numbers such that one integer is 5 more than twice the other and the sum is less than 30.
Let x = one number
Then
(x+5) = the other number:
:
x + (x+5) < 30
2x < 30 - 5
2x < 25
x < 25/2
x < 12.5
but it has to be an integer
x = 12
:
12 and 17 are the greatest integers less than 30
