Let s be seats, and r be rows. Then s=r-10. So
r(r-10)=1200
rē-10r-1200=0
(r+30)(r-40)=0
r=-30 or 40

In a theater there are1200 seats. The number of seats in each rows is 10 less than the numbers of rows? How many seats are there in each rows?
Let number of seats in each row, be S
Then number of rows = S + 10
We then get the following NUMBER-OF-SEATS equation: S(S + 10) = 1,200

(S - 30)(S + 40) = 0
S, or OR S = - 40 (ignore)
