Answer by checkley75(3666)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
YOU HAVE 2 CHOICES HERE:
YOU CAN MULTIPLY THE FIRST EQUATION BY 2 (ELIMINATE THE Y TERM OR MULTIPLY THE SECOND EQUATION BY -3 (ELIMINATES THE X TERM)& THEN ADD THEM.
.36X+.54Y=.18
.06X-.54Y=-.04 NOW ADD:
-----------------------------------
.42X=.14
X=.14/.42
X=1/3 ANSWER.
NOW REPLACE X BY 1/3 & SOLVE FOR Y.
.06*1/3-.54Y=-.04
.02-.54Y=-.04
-.54Y=-.04-.02
-.54Y=-.06
Y=-.06/-.54
Y=1/9 ANSWER.
PROOF
.18*1/3+.27*1/9=.09
.06+.03=.09
.09=.09
