Question 1014997: Dear tutors,
How do I put this inequality in interval notation?
14. A amusement park charges a flat rate of $ 55 for a birthday party plus $8.00 for each person. If you have $175 to spend, at most how many people can attend the party? I know how to solve it but not how to put in interval notation.
Let p be the number of people at the party. Now I can create the inequality for the given information.
55 + 8p < 165
-55 -55 I subtracted 55 from both sides of the equation
8p/8 < 110/8 I divided both sides by 8 or $8.00
p < 13.75 This is my final answer.
Since I have $165 to spend, only 13 people can attend the party. I round down the number to 13 because there is no such thing as ¾ or .75 being a person.
Write the problem in interval notation.
Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
First off, you have an error.
You have $175 to start not $165.
OK so at most you can have 15 people come.
On the other end, you can have no one come ().
So then this would be,
or in interval notation,
[0,15]
