A union worker made $500 a week.
His Union sought a one year contract and went on strike.
When the new contract was approved, it provided for a 4% raise.
Assume that the worker was not paid during strike given.
Given his raise in salary, how many weeks could he strike and still make at least as much for the next 52 weeks as he would have made without a strike.
:
let s = no. of weeks on strike
:
500 * 52 = $26,000 a year without the 4% raise
:
1.04(500) = $520 a week after the raise
:
520(52-s) = 26000
27040 - 520s = 26000
-520s = 26000 - 27040
-520s = -1040
s = -1040/-520
s = 2 weeks
:
:
Confirm this, working and being paid for 50 weeks at $520 a week
50 * 520 = $26000
