-2 3/8 is equivalent to -2 - 3/8

another way of writing it would be - (2 + 3/8)

the whole part and the fraction part are negative.

-2 is equivalent to -16/8.

-2 - 3/8 is therefore equivalent to -16/8 - 3/8 which is equivalent to -19/8.

the decimal equivalent of -19/8 = -2.375
