Question 611230: I can't pay for it but I need this rather quickly because I have tutoring today.
I have been out of school due to medical reasons and the school provided me with a rather unhelpful tutor who rather than teaching the material pushed me straight off into the book work. The problem is I am a year behind in math and need to study for ACT's and SAT's. This is the problem that has been giving me so much trouble:
In making business plans for a pizza sale fund raiser the Band Boosters at Roosevelt High figured out how both sales income I(n) and selling expenses E(n) would probably depend on number of pizzas sold n. They predicted that I(n)= -0.05n2+20n and E(n)= 5n+250.
a. Estimate value(s) of n for which I(n)= E(n) and explain what the solution(s) of that equation tell about prospects of the pizza sale fund raiser. Illustrate your answer with a sketch of the graphs of the two functions involved labeling key points with their coordinates.
b. Write a rule that gives predicted profit P(n) as a function of number of pizzas sold and use that function to estimate the number of pizza sales necessary for the fund raiser to break even. Illustrate yaddad yadda.
c. Use the profit function to estimate the maximum profit possible from this fund raiser. Then find number of pizzas sold, income, and expenses associated with the maximum profit situation.

Question 615084: I want to determine unit prices for a 24 unit apt complex. 7 units have 1br, and 17 units have 2br. So I'll assume that each of the 17 units are worth double each of the 7 units. So for example, if one of the 2 br units is worth $100,000 then one of the 1 br units is worth $50,000. Each class of unit is assumed to be worth the same as all of the other units in its class (1 or 2 br). The cost of all 24 units is $1,250,000. I was thinking the equation might be 17y +7x = 1,250,000 but then I immediately get stuck. I also tried 17(2x) + 7x but that doesn't seem right and I don't think I know how to solve it anyway (41x=1,250,000?... nah... I need two different numbers, not one.) Thank you in advance for your help.

Question 615551: The difference of two numbers is 18. Doubling the greater number gives the same result as the product of 5 and the smaller number. What's the larger number?
The options are
a)12
b)30
c)60
d)24
I originally thought the answer was 12 but I was wrong :(
I started with "the difference of two numbers is 18
________ - __________ = 18

The rest is where I get confused. Here is what I have attempted
x=smaller number
y=greater number
Doubling the greater number (2y)
gives the same result( = )
as the product (multiply) of 5 and the smaller number 5x=2y
but that doesn't really help me so it must not be right.
I would really like to understand the problem and what I am doing right and where I started going wrong so I can walk myself through these questions in the future.
Your guidance is appreciated.
