x(x - 14) = 32
x^2- 14x + 32
(x - 6) (x-8)
The two numbers are -8 and -6
I know that -8 + -6 = -14 but when I plug in the numbers that do not equal 32. What am I not doing correct?

So far I get X = Wed, 2X = Thurs and 2X+3 = Fri
X + 2X + 2X +3 = total
5X + 3
and now I'm stuck

x = 12 miles
Foster drove to work on Monday at 40 mph and arrived one minute late. He left at the same time on Tuesday, drove at 45 mph, and arrived one minute early. How far does Foster drive to work?
40 mph = 2/3 mi/minute
45 mph = 3/4 mi/minute
The difference in time is 2 minutes
x/40 - x/45 = 2/60
x(1/40 - 1/45) = 2/60
x = 2/(1/40 - 1/45)*60
x = 12 miles
