Question 878403: "How do you solve this word problem?"
"A father walks 36 miles in 12 hours while his son covers the same distance on a bicycle at twice the father's rate of speed. At this rate, how many miles would the bicycle travel in 9 hours?"
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
What is the father's rate of speed?
36 miles/12 hours = 3 miles per hour
The son is cycling at twice the rate, therefore 6 miles per hours.
If the son rides for 9 hours, how far will he travel?
6 miles per hour * 9 hours = 54 miles.
.
Wow! He must be in great shape.
