Question 875435: The sum of two numbers is 24. Adding five times the smaller number to the greater number gives 68. Find the numbers.

Answer by bond(4)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let G be the Greater Number and S be the Smaller Number.
G + S = 24 ............(1)
G + 5S = 68 ............(2)
Eq. (2) - (1) yields
4S = 68 -24;
S = 11;
Hence putting S = 11 in eq. (1) or (2) yields G = 13.
