What is the speed of an airport's moving sidewalk if a person is conveyed 1/8 of a mile through the airport in one and a half minutes while walking at his normal pace of 300ft./min. on the moving sidewalk?

Convert 1/8 of a mile to ft: 1/8 * 5280 = 660 ft
:
let s = speed of the moving sidewalk in ft/min
then actual speed = (s+300)
Time = dist/speed
1.5 min =
1.5(s+300) = 660
1.5s + 450 = 660
1.5s = 660 - 450
1.5s = 210
s = 210/1.5
s = 140 ft/min
