The sum of their ages is 31: so, X + .5X + 10 = 31
Next, solve for X.
x + .5x +10 = 31
1.5x + 10 = 31
1.5x = 21
x = 21 / 1.5
x = 14..................This is Olivia's age.
To find Emma's age: we must do the following: .5x + 10 = .5(14) + 10 = 17
So, Emma is 17 years old.
