Let x & x-3 be thw 2 numbers.
x^2+(x-3)^2=117
x^2+x^2-6x+9=117
2x^2-6x+9-117=0
2x^2-6x-108=0
2(x^2-3x-54)=0
2(x-9)(x+6)=0
x-9=0
x=9 ans for the larger number.
9-3=6 ans. for the smaller number.
Proof:
6^2+9^2=117
36+81=117
117=117
