Question 5856: my question says: A 26 foot ladder is leaning against a building. The foot of the ladder is 10 feet away from the building. How far above the ground does the ladder touch the wall?
This is what i did:
a^2=26^2+10^2
a^2=676+100
a^2=776
a+27.86
Is this correct? thanks

The ladder, wall, and ground form a right triangle. The ladder is on the hypotenuse. Let c=26 and a=10 (note: 2 is squared)
a2 + b2 = c2
10(2) + b2 = 26(2)
100 + b2 = 676
-100
b(2) = 576
b=24 squared
I hope that helps you
