When the man returns from work in the late afternoon, the chauffeur leaves the
house at the right time to meet the ferry as it docks.
One day, the man decides to take a ferry that leaves one hour earlier than his usual ferry.
When the ferry docks, his chauffeur is not there and he begins to walk home.
Eventually, the chauffeur meets him on the road and drives him back home where they arrive 15 minutes earlier than usual.
How many minutes was the man walking along the road?
:
Let t = normal driving time for the trip 1 way (in minutes)
The round trip was 15 min less therefore:
(t-7.5) = the one way trip to the point of pickup, (7.5 min from the station)
:
We know he would start walking 60 min before the normal time the car was there.
He was met when the car was 7.5 min from the station
Therefore:
He would be walking 60 - 7.5 = 52.5 minutes
