Question 38315: Can a tutor please tell me this question in an equation: A truck traveling at a constant rate of 45 mph leaves Albany. One hour later a car traveling at a constant rate of 60 mph also leaves Albany traveling in the same direction on the same highway. How long will it take for the car to catch up to the truck, if bobth vehicles continue in the same direction on the highway.
We learned this at the beginning of the year, so I really can't remember, and my notes don't seem to have any problems with the hour difference in it. I attempted to make a graph, but it came out wrong, once again because I'm not sure how to put the hour difference in.

Answer by Nate(3500)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Choose the equations:
y=45x
and
y=60x-45
where y is the distance and x is the hours (also, subtract 45 in the second equation due to the truck had already one hour (45 miles) traveled)
Combine to get: x=3 So they will meet at three hours.
