Question 35680: the base of a triangle is 6cm less than its height. If the triangle has an area of 36cm squared, find the length of the base and the height.
Answer by narayaba(40) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let height be x
the base is 6cm less than height therefore base b =x - 6
area =(1/2)*b*h = 36
b*h = 72
x*(x-6)=72
x^2-6x-72=0
(x-12)(x+6)=0
x= 12 or -6
but height cannot be negative so x = 12cm and base = 12-6=6cm
