Question 323635: I have to make an equation for this problem: A teacher goes to Company B to buy supplies and for every dollar amount spent over $20 there is a 30% discount given. I thought the equation would be y=.30x+20 or y=x-20(.30). Are either of these correct?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let him buy $x worth material above $20
So for every dollar he spends above $20 he pays $0.7
so for $x he will pay 0.7x
Totally he will pay 20 + 0.7x dollars
